Game 4 Pirates vs Dbacks (4/9)
Well, the Pirates are not starting off their first road game on a good note. They lost last night 9-1. I actually fell asleep by 10:00 PM (My sinus’ have been going crazy lately and I couldn’t keep my eyes open after I took my medicine.) But maybe that was a good thing that I missed that game.
I woke up to check out the scores, boy was I suprised. It seemed like a lot of people picked Charlie Morton to be the “Ace” of the starters this year. Last year he did pretty well except for that one start agianst Chicago.
Morton went 3 Innings: 9H, 8R, 8ER, 1BB, struck out 6 and gave up a Grand Slam by Chris Young.
Matt, from the Pittsburgh Peas tweeted “Another game like last night and Charlie Morton should just stick to the Guitar.” Lol
By the way, follow me on twitter. @kristpie
Aki went 2 for 4, and Jones went 2 for 3 with a BB. McCutchen, LaRoche, Cedeno, and Church all went hitless.
The Dbacks have a pretty good team this year. The past few years The Dodgers have pretty much ran away with the NL West. This year i think it’s going to be much closer. Although I picked Dodgers to win the NL West again.
I’ve been to Chase Field a few times in the 08 season. I really love Phoenix. Here’s a few pictures of my friend Sandra and I there:

That’s me on the right in both pictures. I had my hair red for about a year and also had extentions in. I look like a different person huh? =)
I have a lot of pictures from many different stadiums. I’ll share them with you as the season goes on.
As of right now the Pirates are 2-2 .500!! Let’s hope tonight’s game goes much better.
Game 2 & 3 Pirates vs Dodgers (4/7-8)
What a game #2 was!
Garrett Jones hit a monster 3 Run HR in the 1st inning against Clayton Kershaw. Yes, if your counting that is 3 HR in 2 Games for GFJ! Unbelieveable!
The Pirates/Dodgers went into extras tied at 3-3. Now, If we would have had the 2009 Pen we would have deffinitly lost the game. The bullpen has really improved with the new additions and held off the Dodgers. Ronny Cedeno hit his first career walk off win in the bottom of the 11th for the W.

I couldn’t believe that going into Game #3 of the season we had a chance for the Sweep. And over the Dodgers! A few fans sitting around me even brought brooms which I thought was hilarious!
Unfortunatly they weren’t used. I don’t know if it was lack of rest due to the late game the night before or what. JR also changed the lineup a bit. Church replaced Milledge in LF, Garrett Jones moved from RF to 1B, Delwyn Young played RF and Bobby Crosby played SS in place of Ronny Cedeno.
Crosby had 2 Errors, Jones had 1
The team had 11 LOB and were only 1 for 9 with RISP.
Hayden Penn made his debut with the Pirates and gave up 6 H and 4 R in just 1 inning.
To make matters worse, it was cold, windy and poured rain.
I’m a real fan and stayed the whole game, soaked and freezing. People flew out of the stadium as if they would melt in the rain. I think its rude to leave in the middle of the game, might as well kick them when they are down.
The Dodgers won 11-2.
I almost forgot! Guess who was at PNC park for the 1st pitch??!

I am huge fans of Mike & Mike!

Opening Day 2010!
The day is finally here! What seemed like the LONGEST offseason ever is finally over. For baseball fans, opening day is more exciting than christmas morning (or atleast for me it is)
I couldn’t sleep last night, kept tossing and turning, dreaming of the brand new season when you can say heck yeah we are tied for 1st place we have a chance! After a few months reality sits in. But today I am optimistic and excited!

I arrived at PNC park around 10am, early enough to enjoy the festivites and grab some brunch. I don’t think ive ever seen so many Pirate fans before! I wish they came out like that all season but unfortuantly they don’t.
After a little venture I went to watch the pirates batting pratice. I must admit I did feel a little cool flashing my season ticket holder card for early access.

Chad Billingsley warming up in the bullpen.

Dodgers taking batting pratice.

With Matt of “The Pittsburgh Peas” if you don’t read his blog already…what are you waiting for!

I Love Stan!

Newly acquired Bucco, Raynor.

2010 Dodgers

2010 Pirates

The Pirates taking the field on opening day!

Dodgers Joe Torre and Pirates John Russell.
You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful day for a baseball game. It was in the 80′s, party sunny and it didn’t rain! (YES!)
I was a little dissapointed listening to a lot of the Pirate fans around me. A lot of them had no idea who any of the players were. I get not knowing a few, there were a lot of trades. But really? I heard people asking who Garrett Jones, Andy Laroche, Evan Meek, and Ross Ohlendorf were. Shame Pittsburgh!!
I know its still early in the season and maybe I shouldn’t even bring it up yet but I just can’t help myself. What are we going to do with Andy LaRoche. Ugh! When he missed that ball and costed us 2 runs I thought that could be the difference in the loss in the game. (I know in the end it didn’t matter but still) We were playing the Dodgers for heck’s sake! Who honestly thought we were going to beat them 11-5? Not only did he mess up, he also went 0-4. He sure has a lot to improve or he will be jobless come June/July when Pedro Alvarez comes up. PEDRO! PEDRO!
Garrett Freaking Jones. He is so ridicolous!! 1st at bat a BOMB (457 ft into the river) 2nd at bat another HR. I really wish he would have done a curtain call I was standing and screaming for it! He also made two great catches today as well. He is a gem and we are so lucky we got him!
I was excited to see Jefff Clement start the 2010 season at first base. From what I hear he has a great bat. He did pretty good and even caught a pretty good line drive.
I was a little dissapointed that Aki Iwamura went 0-4. I don’t know much about the guy (except that he had 6 gold gloves in Japan thanks to the Pirates score board) I’m excited to see him this season though, everyone says great things.
Zack Duke got the win on opening day, his second year in a row. It’s also the forth year in a row the Pirates have won opening day!
Welcome to Pittsburgh Ryan Church! When JR took out Duke and Church went in to PH i was a little confused why he was taken out so early. Ryan Church hit a 3 RBI double! I’ll never 2nd guess JR in the future. =)
I don’t know about you guys but when A McCutchen or Jones comes up to bat they remind me of a Manny or an ARod. No, no not the talent! Deffinitly not there yet. I mean, when they come up to bat they give me that sense of “anything is possible” and “anything can happen” baseball miracles and I haven’t felt that from a Pirate player in a really long time. Anyone else?

Randon Notes
This is such an exciting next few days for me. Today, is April fools (I love playing pranks on people) tommorow is my birthday, sunday is Easter festivites and MONDAY is opening Day!
So much to look forward too! This will be my last post before the season begins. I’m so freaking excited! I wish all the teams luck. I’m looking forward to a great 2010 season.
- ESPN magazine’s predictions:

- As you probally know by now, the Pirates claimed Hayden Penn off waivers from FL Marlins. To make room for him on the roster, they designated Brandon Moss for assignment.
Can’t say I didn’t see that one happening. Since we got him from the Jason Bay trade, he has been down right awful. I think I read somewhere that in ST he had a pretty long hitless streak.
- The Pirates also resasigned Erik Kratz to minor league camp, making Jason Jaramillo as backup catcher to Ryan Doumit.
- Spring training has been pretty rough for the pirates. Last time i checked I think they were 7-16.
I’m excited that ST is almost over and the 2010 season is FINALLY ready to begin!
- Lastly, I want to thank everyone for all the kind words and all of the comments I’ve gotten about giving away some of my tickets. I was raised by one of the kindest, sweetest, nicest mothers you’d ever meet and it rubbed off on me. I realize I could sell my tickets (ones I can’t make it to) on stubhub bc let’s be honest, everyone could use money these days but I understand how the economy is right now. I have loved baseball since I was little and during rough times its nice to forget about everything and enjoy yourself at a game. I know it sounds cheesy but if everyone gave a little, or spread a little love the word would be a much better place. I hope I don’t have to miss to many, but things come up. I will miss most wed games during the first half of the season. So keep checking back (you dont even have to read my blog lol) and hopefully you’ll get my seat to an upcoming game.
Only 4 Days 2 Hours 58 Minutes!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and PS. Opening day Monday I am going to PNC park the crack of dawn. I am having bfast near by the park and want to be one of the firsts in line. If any other Pirates fans plan on going early, let me know. I love meeting Pirate fans!
