Pirates notes
I enjoy the All-Star break. I really do. It’s fun to watch the Home Run Derby and the All Star game, the Minor League All Star Game, the ESPYS. But I am antsy and ready for the second half to begin.
I can not wait to be back at the ballpark tomorrow. It has felt like an eternity.
- Outfielder, Starling Marte, one of the Pirates top prospects in the minors, is having a minor set back. Marte had the hook of his hamate bone on his left hand removed on May 18th. After having played two rehab games, going 3 for 6, he was shut down again.
“We hope to know more in the coming days,” director of player development Kyle Stark said.
- As suspected, Erik Kratz has been called up from AAA Indy, and will have his chance for his dream of coming true to play in the big leagues. He was hitting .296 with nine homers and 37 RBIs in 56 games for the Indians. The coolest part of his callup? It happened on Live TV. He was playing in the Minor League All-Star game last night when he got the big news. For his interview live on MLBNetwork click here. As if that wasn’t awesome enough, he had a lot of friends and family in the stands, he grew up close to Allentown, PA, where the game was being played. Congrats to Kratz, I’m looking forward to seeing him play.
