Burres to start Monday vs Braves
Brian Burress will take Jeff Karstens start in the rotation on Monday against the Atlanta Braves. Karstens is continuing to have right shoulder sorness.
Jeff started on Tuesday against the Cubs but during his bullpen this week he felt discomfort is his right shoulder, the same problem that sidelined him nearly two weeks ago.
“It just doesn’t feel right,” manager John Russell said. “It’s been a long year for him, and it’s a little cranky.”
With less than a month left in the season, it’s possible for Karstens to return to the rotation.
“He’s not the most physical guy,” Huntington said. “He doesn’t do it the easiest. But I’ll tell you what, he’s given us everything he’s had every time he goes out. He’s shown us that there is definitive value. He’s shown us that Jeff Karstens can get Major League hitters out. For many periods this year, he was our most consistent starter.”
Karstens has already pitched 121.1 innings this season, more then his has since 2006.
“No reason to rush him back, but also no reason to shut him down. If he can finish the year on the mound, that’s a better place than the disabled list.”
