Walkers streak extends to 13, Pre-game Notes 9/7: Braves @ Pirates
With the two-run home run in the sixth-inning of the Pirates 3-1 win over the Braves on Monday, Neil Walker extended his hitting streak to 13 games. This streak is the longest by a Pirate player this season as well as a career-high for Walker.
The home run, that landed in the Pirates shubbery, was his 10th of the season and his fifth in his last nine games.
“I just tried to put the barrel on it,” Walker said of his home run swing — his 38th extra-base hit in 333 at-bats this season. “I saw Jose [Alvarez] was running on the pitch and I felt like it was one of the best pitches I’d seen all day. He was hitting his spots pretty good and left a pitch out over the plate and I felt like I could do something with it, and I got enough of it.”
