Andy Van Slyke the next Pirates’ manager?
Now before you get all excited in the fact that Andy Van Slyke could be the Pirates’ new manager I must inform you that it is purely speculation right now.
This was tweeted on Tuesday night: “Buddy of mine at Pirates event at PNC yesterday saw Van Slyke- asked if he was there for mgr interview. Said ‘no comment’”
The Pirates’ have not confirmed whether this is true. And normally I would not post on this matter unless it was a credible source but it does make me wonder. Are the Pirates’ interviewing other potential managerial candidates without letting the public know?
Until the Club confirms or denies the story I guess we will just have to wait and wonder…
Van Slyke could be a great fit. He is one of those guys who respects the farm system, likes to mentor young players, and has the experience and stamina to know what it takes to be a success at this level.
Will be interesting to see if the Pirates front office prolong the Managerial search out a bit untilafter the World Series (possibly interested in a coach on a playoff team) or just get it done ASAP.
No matter what, will be exciting for the team, the fans and of course, us followers from a far.
Hopefully they get someone that suits the system instead of trying to fit a square peg in a Pirates round hole.

WHAT???? Van Slyke said “no comment.” This is breaking news…he usually has something pretty hilarious to say about everything. That is a good omen. I have always liked him. I hope he gets the job.
