Webb interested in pitching in the Steel city?
It’s been known the Pirates are interested in former Cy Young award winner Brandon Webb, but would he welcome the opportunity to pitch in Pittsburgh?
“The Pirates are an organization that Brandon and I have a lot of respect for, especially for the GM,” agent Jonathan Maurer said, referring to general manager Neal Huntington. “But they’re also one of a number of teams that are interested.”
It won’t be easy for the Bucs to sign Webb as they are one of roughly a half-dozen teams to be interested in the right-hander.
Webb, 31, has not pitched competitively since August 9, 2009 after undergoing shoulder surgery. He did have a workout two months ago where he achieved “about 75-80 percent of his usual strength.”
Webb’s agent Jonathan Maurer has said his shoulder, which has been examined by several teams, is healthy enough to be able to pitch at full strength for spring training.
