Reds broadcaster lashes out at the Pirates
Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman recently lashed out at the Pirates organization during a speech at Marshall University.
“They’ve probably improved themselves, which means they’ll probably lose 97 games,” Brennaman told the Charleston (W.Va) Daily Mail. “There’s no light at the end of the tunnel for that franchise. There really isn’t. I don’t think it has great ownership, I don’t think it has great baseball expertise in its front office, and is strapped for finances, which is probably the single biggest problem. I feel bad for them. PNC Park is one of the fine ballparks in Major League Baseball.”
Marty Brennaman is a *********. I live fairly close to cincinnati and hear him quite often. He is always running his mouth about somebody in baseball. Guys like him should focus their energies on the team they follow and not pretend to know the problems of every other team out there. It’s not like his own team hasn’t struggled just as much, just not at epic proportions like this one. Rome wasn’t built in a day Marty!
It wasn’t that long ago that he could have said the same things about the Reds. He’s had problems with the Cubs and their fans in the past too. Maybe he should focus on his team instead of berating other teams. Also, it doesn’t help baseball any to insult other organizations. Just my thoughts.

Brennaman, is a POS. I wonder what he’d say about the Reds prior to last season, if he wasn’t one of their employees! That’s so incredibly classy of Brennaman to kick the Pirates, because it’s the most original idea out there. Here’s hoping a Pedro foul ball hits him in the pressbox this summer! -Go Bucs!
Regardless what people think about Marty, they have to agree that there is some truth in his “controversial” statements. I don’t see the Pirates winning the division anytime soon. Now, of course, anything could happen, but I think Marty was just being realistic. And he did give the Pirates a compliment: he said their stadium was one of the finer ones in MLB.
As for his comments about Cubs fans a couple years ago, he made the comments on the radio during a game at Wrigley Field because he was irritated at the situation. Adam Dunn hit a home run, and instead of throwing just the ball back (which I’m fine with), the fans in the bleachers threw multiple balls on the field, which delayed the game. I agreed with him then, and I still agree with him, because I’ve had not-so-great experiences with Cubs fans. (I’m not implying that all Cubs fans are like that though.)

Brennaman is the biggest tool in MLB. If I were you I wouldn’t take anything he says seriously.

I was very shocked by how many of the comments were upset by Brennaman.
You shouldn’t let Brennaman get under your skin. As a Pirate fan, I’m sure you’ve heard worse. And remember, the Reds (until last season) had a nine year losing record.
Broadcasters, fans, writers will continue to say bad things about the Pirates and the organization until they see a winning record. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
Cincybaseballgirl, I don’t agree with you on ‘the pirates won’t be winning the NL C anytime soon’. The Pirates have a lot of very talented prospects, some currently in the majors, some on their way. I don’t think its realistic for them to win this year, I wouldn’t count them out several years down the road. 2013, ’14 could shape up to be great years.
