Ticket prices to increase at PNC Park
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune, ticket prices at PNC Park will soon be going up.
As it was announced recently, game day ticket prices will cost between $2-$5 more than advanced tickets.
The average cost of a ticket to a Pirates home game in 2010 was just $15.39 –league average was $26.74.
“We need to have a competitively priced product,” President Frank Coonelly said. “We’ve gotten far behind. We need to have a sustainable, competitive team on the field. So we really need to move (ticket prices) in that (upward) direction. When? As soon as we possibly can.”
“From a business perspective, I think they have to raise them,” said John Clark, professor of sport management and director of the MBA program at Robert Morris University. “I’ve been expecting it to happen for the past couple of years. I think Pirates baseball is worth more than what we pay for it right now.”
Wow, I did not know that tickets were so inexpensive for the Pirates. I hate to see the prices going up, but I think it’s inevitable.

There was no way they could continue keeping prices that low. $25 tickets at PNC are at least $50 at every other stadium. I think they’ll go up across the board for 2012, especially if the team shows some real improvement this year.

Ron,
The season ticket seat I had at PNC Park in 2010 was $35 at Dodger Stadium (I used to live out there) the similar seat was around $300 bucks.

Section 316,
As the Pirates get better, they should definitly raise the ticket prices. I agree. $40 bucks for a seat right behind the Pirates dugout is a steal. As soon as the Bucs break .500, PNC will be packed.

The Pirates haven’t been very good for a long time, but at least they haven’t been soaking their fans just to enjoy a game at the ballpark, unlike some teams I could name.
I’m not a Pirates fan, but I love PNC Park, and I can pay a few more dollars. It’s also the only ballpark my wife doesn’t mind traveling to!
