Mesa Solar Sox end of season update

The Arizona Fall league ended with the Scottsdale Scorpions winning the title defeating the Peo Javelinas 3-2 On Saturday. The Mesa Solar Sox finished six games behind the Champion Scorpions. Here is an update on how the Pirates players finished the season.

Brian Leach finished the season with a 0.00 ERA. In 10 innings pitched he allowed 11 hits and five runs (zero earned) with seven strike outs and seven walks.

Aaron Pribanic went 0-1 with a 2.00 ERA for the Solar sox. In 18 innings he allowed seven runs (four earned) and 18 hits while striking out nine and walking six.

Justin Wilson allowed nine runs (eight earned) on 19 hits through 16.1 innings. He struck out 16 and walked eight. Wilson ended the AFL with a 0-1 record and a 4.41 ERA.

Tony Sanchez finished with four home runs and nine RBI and a .206 AVG with the Solar Sox. A disappointing Fall League for Sanchez, but it was his first time behind the plate again since his jaw surgery.

Josh Harrison had a great Fall League for the Solar Sox. He finished with a .330 AVG and a .907 OPS. He hit a team leading 10 doubles and two triples with eight RBI in 22 games.

Jordy Mercer had 13 RBI and scored 10 runs in 20 games. He finished the season with a .267 AVG.

Andrew Lambo hit .274 for the Solar Sox with four home runs and a team leading 23 RBI. In 28 games Lambo had 29 hits, eight of them doubles.

Arizona Fall League update

The Pirates are doing really well in the Arizona Fall league. The Mesa Solar Sox are 10-10 and two games back from first place in the AFL East. The team’s .310 batting average is highest of all the teams. Here are some stat updates on how the young Bucs are doing so far.

 

Pitcher Brian Leach has made seven appearances (Seven innings pitched) and has not given up a single earned run. He has walked five and struck out four.

Right-handed Pitcher Benjamin Pribanic has an ERA of 0.87 through six games and 10.1 innings pitched. He has allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out eight.

Justin Wilson has a 3.60 ERA in 10 innings of work. He has allowed five runs (four earned) and struck out ten.

Catcher Tony Sanchez is batting .231 with an OBP of .302 and a .385 SLG. Sanchez has hit two home runs and has four RBI.

Josh Harrison is raking this fall. He is batting .328 (the highest average of the Pirates players) with seven doubles, two triples, one home run and seven RBI. The third baseman has an OPS of .910.

Shortstop Jordy Mercer has 10 RBI and two doubles. He is batting .255.

Andrew Lambo, like Harrison is raking this fall. He is batting .301 with six doubles and 16 RBI (ties Brandon Wood for most in the league). The outfielder has three home runs in his 18 games played so far.

AFL Update (Mesa Solar Sox)

The Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall league has played five games so far this season. Since the prospects are such an important part of the Pirates future, I wanted to post on how some of the Pirates’ players have done thus far.

 

  • Pitcher Brian Leach in two games: 2.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 2K (0.00 ERA)
  • Pitcher Aaron Pribanic in one game: 2.1 IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 3K (0.00 ERA)
  • Pitcher Justin Wilson in one game: 2.0 IP, 2H, 1BB, 3K (0.00 ERA) According to Keith Law, Wilson hit 95 on the gun in the first and several 93 and 94′s.
  • Catcher Tony Sanchez in three games: 12 AB, 3R, 4H, 1R, 1BB, 4K (.333 AVG, .385 OBP)
  • Third Baseman Josh Harrison in three games: 15 AB, 1R, 2H, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1BB, 5K (.133 AVG)
  • Short Stop Jordy Mercer in three games: 14 AB, 2R, 6H, 1 2B, 5 RBI, 2K (.429 AVG, .429 OBP)
  • Outfielder Andrew Lambo in five games: 24 AB, 7R, 7H, 1 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI (.292 AVG, .458 SLG)

 

The Mesa Solar Sox –which also has players from the Angels, Phillies, Cubs, and Mets organizations– are 4-1 and are tied in first in the AFL East with Scottsdale.

Arizona Fall league started on October 12th and runs through November 18th.

 

Pirates’ players to play winter ball

For some Pirates’ players their regular season may be over, but that doesn’t stop them from continuing to play the game they love. That’s right, winter leagues are about to start.

 

Arizona Fall League starts on Tuesday, October 12th and several Pirates’ players are playing this season.

Tony Sanchez, Jordy Mercer, Josh Harrison and Andrew Lambo will all be playing for the Mesa Solar Sox.

Sanchez only played in 59 games this season with High-A Bradenton due to a broken jaw which ended his season early. He was off to a great start though, batting .314 with four home runs, 35 RBI.

Mercer spent the 2010 season with Double-A Altoona. He finished the season batting .282 with three home runs and 65 RBI.

Harrison batted .298 with four home runs and 74 RBI this season with Double-A Altoona. The infielder also stole 19 bases.

Lambo was acquired from the Dodgers in the Octavio Dotel trade. He played 26 games for the Altoona Curve batting .275 with two home runs and 10 RBI.

 

 

Caribbean Baseball starts on October 12, 2010. Brian Bass, Wil Ledezma, Hector Gimenez and Ronny Cedeno will be playing for the Tigres de Aragua.

Bass had a 12.27 ERA in four games with the Pirates this season. In 7.1 innings he allowed 10 runs on nine hits with 10 walks and struck out five.

Ledezma was 0-3 with a 6.86 ERA in 27 games with the Pirates. Wil allowed 15 runs in 19.2 innings this season with 22 strike outs.

Gimenez finished the 2010 season batting .305 with the Altoona Curve. He hit 16 home runs and drove in 72 RBI.

Cedeno was the starting shortstop for the Pirates in 2010. He hit eight home runs with 38 RBI’s and batted .256.
