2010 Piratefest

If you have never been to Piratefest before, I highly reccomend it. This year, was my very first Piratesfest and I had a blast! I only planned on staying a few hours, and I ended up staying the whole time (10-7) Needless to say I left the convention center: starving, excited for the 10′ season, and with a bag full of goodies.

Some of the booths they had set up were: Darts, Bucco, Chuck-A-Luck, Duck Pond, Stands for Altoona Curve & West Virgin Power and many more. They had stations where you could purchase single tickets as well as full or partial season tickets.

Thanks to being a season ticket holder I got acess into the VIP room where I got extra autographs and a bar & wii.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Bill Mazeroski’s homer in the 1960 World Series against the Yankees. They announced a few days ago that Maz was going to get his vary own statue outside PNC Park. The statue will be revealed on Sept 6th. I took pictures of the model and what the statue will look like outside the park.

010.JPGWhen I walked up to Maz to get his autograph, I was literally shaking. Anyone who knows me knows that I am always loud and bubbly and I was speechless for a minute. I did finally end up talking to him. I told him what an honor it was to meet him. That my grandpa used to tell me stories of him playing baseball and of the homerun he hit in the ’60 world series. He commented back with “Your grandpa? Not your Mom or Dad? Now I feel old” (At that moment I wish i would have shoved my foot into my mouth) I laughed and said I was so sorry, I didn’t mean to offend him. He laughed and said he was kidding. I think, if it’s possible, I love him even more.
